Autobiography

My name is Dory Lauzan. I was born in La Habana, Cuba in 1985. Came to United States when I was 9 years of age. My parents Juana and Nelson Lauzan decided to sail out from Cuba to give me and my younger sibling an opportunity of a better life. My interest in medicine started when my dad was diagnosed with cancer on my early teenage years. Attended to Miami Dade College for my AA in nursing, later transferring to Nova southeastern University for my BSN in nursing.

Soon after high school I was offered the opportunity to work for one of the biggest hospitals here in South Florida. for Baptist Hospital of Miami. Started off as unit secretary on a Medical Surgical floor while working on my AA. Knowing the hospital had an amazing program for nursing students called “Versant program” in which they pay more than 85% of tuition. Fortunately, I was one of the 40 elected students for the program.

Once I graduated from NSU with BSN in nursing and passing my boards in 2011, I was offered a position on the same floor for staff nurse. After becoming experience on medical-surgical decided to transfer to an oncology floor when currently working, became chemotherapy certified and learned to care or oncology patients. After 4 years on oncology decided to give my career a new path, by enrolling on Family Nurse practitioner program. for better care of my patients.
