To improve practice, nurses are improvising new ideologies crucial in the field. The provision of evidence-based practices is tied to the quality of practice and intertwining of varying procedures and paradigms within the hospital setting. As I grew up, we visited a hospital where I met an always smiling nurse who treated me with respect. My philosophy is based on core values like kindness, being honest, persistent, continuous learning, and being goal and objective oriented during practice. Personal philosophy is a means of self-discovery. Nursing philosophy is a reflection of a personal and professional value system, beliefs, goals, ethics, and relationship to the world (Meehan, 2012).
The nursing metaparadigm is crucial in designing personal nursing philosophy. Metaparadigm is the foundation of the knowledge of nursing and philosophy with four significant concepts that include person, nursing, environment, and health. Besides these elements, there are specific patterns of knowing to nurses that have personal knowledge, empirics, ethics, and aesthetics. The concept of people refers to people receiving care. Nursing is the delivery of care, practice focusing on goals, roles, and functions. Environment refers to the surrounding of the patients, either internal or external, physical, and social. Health is the level of wellness, the wellbeing of patients.
Using personal terms, people could refer to patients who seek healthcare services within the hospital. Nursing is the process of providing evidence-based care or treatment to people or patients who attend the hospital setting. The environment could refer to different factors within the hospital or the patient that influence patient treatment or wellbeing. Health refers to the ability of the patient to cope with life with nobody pain brought about by sickness. I will inculcate the concept of nursing to the nursing metaparadigm. I will also consider the idea of the environment and people. Understanding the nursing process and the environment along which patients operate is crucial for a philosophy based on evidence-based care.
I thus find the concepts crucial to the nursing meta-paradigm. I will eliminate the idea of health. The idea is less important in this case, as patients will always present themselves to healthcare when they face serious health concerns. The most important concept is understanding the different procedures of offering quality and evidence-based care.
