Race relations are the ways in which people of different nationalities
(races) living together in the same community behave toward one another. In our
discussions, I asked each of you to complete
the statement: I am not racist,

articles, “Ignorance About Race Is Killing Us”
and “My Reality: 10 Truths About Being Black
in America.”
Humans are biased in how we interpret information. We develop our cognitive filter in the process of learning
how to be a member of a society, and it affects our whole lives. Social scientists call this enculturation and
development. And it creates implicit biases. We basically act on our biases on what we have heard others say,
not necessary what we have experienced.
- If we acknowledge our own biases and work to open our minds and recognize that the experience of others
matters, we might get better at getting along and avoid (or at least lessen) the fear, anger, and resentment that
has taken far too much from all of ours lives. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? answering these questions; use evidence such as examples and illustrations. - After reading “My Reality: 10 Truths about Being Black in America” by LeRon Barton, choose two (2) of the
ten truths you can attest to/ and are familiar with. Write a well-developed essay explaining how you identify with
this truth/assertion. Use examples, evidence and/or illustrations.
