Final Exam
Part I
Complete Part I online at MyUCW. It will be available online until Sunday at midnight of week 11. There are 30 questions for Part I of the Final exam drawn from Chapters 9- 13 and you will have a 45-minute time limit.
Part II
Answer ONE of the following questions in essay format. Please limit your answer to 500 words each. Confine any references to our course materials, ie. textbook, lectures, videos, PowerPoint slides, etc. Please double space your answers in APA style and submit them in a Word document. Submit to the appropriate dropbox by Sunday at midnight of week 11
- Would it be reasonable to argue that although China controls content and traffic on the Internet for its citizens, the difference between China and Western states is more in degree than absolute difference? Take a position and discuss with examples of key events, policy, and interactions with digital companies.
- What is the significance of the distinctions between the “knowledge,” “security,” and “surveillance” economy? Which of these terms best describes the developments in the political- economy of Canada in recent years? Explain with examples.
- Do you agree that the shift to online politics further fragments citizens into specific audience groups? Does this limit the discussion of key political and economic change? Argue your position with examples of online democracy in Canada and elsewhere.
