Research Proposal on Social Conflict Management
Introduction
Social conflict refers to the struggle for power in a social setting. It occurs when two parties
or even more parties start opposing each other by applying power, where one party tries to
achieve its own goals while blocking the other party from achieving theirs (Cuppen, 2018).
Social conflicts have been there between the government, non-governmental organizations, and
people where people have been put into a dilemma of the kind of life they will live and rise of
endless questions on equality and human rights.
Research Question.
I. What are the causes of the social conflict?
II. What are the effects of the social conflict?
III. What are the several criteria for managing social conflicts?
IV. Which is the best method to manage social conflicts?
Background Information
In society, it is always possible that the people in society have different personal rapport
influenced by cultural differences and different working places. These people stay connected
through digital tools and therefore need high integrity and knowledge when dealing with
conflicts when they arise. Research Proposal on Social Conflict Management Paper.
Causes of social conflicts
Social conflicts are universal and occur in all places (Sabadash & Denysenko, 2018).
They can occur as a result of:
I. Diminishing supply of subsistence means,
II. Struggle for survival and existence,
III. Instincts for aggression in man,
IV. Differences in the moral values change in the society and the man’s desire and demands.
V. Differences brought about by cultural background,
VI. Peoples’ interest differences,
VII. Social change.
Types of social conflicts
Several people have characterized social conflicts under different categories. Simmel
categorizes social conflict into War, litigation, factional strife, and impersonal ideas conflict
(Simmel, 2010). According to Gillin, there are five social conflicts: racial, personal, class,
political, and international conflicts (Gillin, 1948). Social conflicts can also be divided into
Latent and overt conflict and corporate and personal conflict.
Methodology
An area of study will be selected where social conflicts are known to have existed or are
still existing. Interview and questionnaires will be used to collect data from the public. The data
to be collected will include the cause of the social conflict, its effects on society, and any possible
mechanism already applies to solve the conflict. Collected data will be examined and come up
with several management ways of the conflict. Recommendations will be drawn from the results
obtained from the data.
