Analyzing my own life, I’m not sure if these friendships are possible. I don’t have someone I would consider my “soul friend”. I have close friends, but I wouldn’t consider any of them to be soulmates.

Soul friendships are the highest form of friendship. Once a person has attained such a friendship, if at all possible, it is their duty and obligation to nurture this friendship. Soul friends are friends that stick with each other through thick and thin, the good and the bad. They share life’s ups and downs and the emotions that go along with them. This is a relationship when one truly knows oneself, as well as the other friend. It’s not based on convenience, rather connection. It’s not selfish, but rather selfless. You are friends with this person because you care about them and their well being – not what it benefits to you. This friendship is considered to be rare among people, “Soul friendship is fundamentally the unrepeatable experience of knowing, and being known, by that one, particular person”, (Vernon, 2010). They understand you and accept you for who you are.

Analyzing my own life, I’m not sure if these friendships are possible. I don’t have someone I would consider my “soul friend”. I have close friends, but I wouldn’t consider any of them to be soulmates. That may be in part because I am an introvert – it’s difficult for me to open up to others and let them see the vulnerable side of me. This isn’t to say that I don’t believe in soul friends – but I think those that do find them are one of the lucky ones because they don’t come very often and are rare to have.
