My case study topic is focusing on protection of customers data. Due to development of technology, people are relying on information and internet in many fields. Customers personal and financial information is more valuable than old days. In October, 2017, Hyatt Hotels 41 properties were attacked by malware that customers payment data was breached by criminals. Such situations are not first time occurred in Hyatt Hotels properties or in hospitality industry. Even though Hyatt Organization claimed they have added additional layers to protect the system, cybersecurity still was not treated seriously by hoteliers. The price for repairing the internet security system to defend malware is not cheap since the system need to cover all the properties of the organization. Also, the organization, such as Hyatt happened many cases before, should initiatively look for lost data from the outsources. The customers loyalty and brands reputation are easily lost by such cases that famous brand should treat cybersecurity seriously in every property. The balance between the financial lost and the reputation lost will be discussed and customers reactions will be covered too.
