Data collection is aimed at acquiring or assisting in the acquisition of data. The process of information collection is through making a request and obtaining information from the individuals or the organization through the use of a vehicle. Information can either be offered directly (self-enumeration) or through the interview process. Information can also be obtained from the administrative sources by asking the respondent a permission of linking with the administrative records.

Data capturing process involves the conversion of the information which has been provided by the respondent into an electronic format. Coding of the information involves the process of assigning the numerical value to the respondents through automating. Information scrubbing is the amendment or the removal of data in a database which is considered to be incorrect, improperly formatted, and duplicated. Information scrubbing involves the programs which can be used to correct a number of a particular type of error like for example the addition of the missing zip codes or determining a duplicate record (Margaret, n.d).

The organization of the information involves grouping them into records. The aspects of an individual record are known as fields which can be utilized as a point while accessing them from the database. The entry of the information records might occur in periodical within a database and each record might be in the form of a table which each column of a table representing the fields and each row representing an individual record (University System of Georgia, n.d).

Asthma Data Analysis

Structural organization of the database

Based on the presentation of this survey data, the structural organization of the database consists of a table which has been divided into rows and columns. Each column is representing fields while each row is representing an individual record (Eric, Paulina, Justin, & Brent, 2018). The row is composed of information which represents the information on the column i.e. the school number, student identification, the gender, the zip, date of birth, the presence or absence of the diseases such as Asthma, RAD, and Bronchitis. Other information represented by the rows includes wheezing, medication, missing days, and the w/month. Survey population

The survey population refers to the sampling which is used in describing the process of selecting the sample elements for the targeted population to help in performing a survey. In this particular data, the targeted population was the students to be surveyed based on asthma illness among other diseases. The students were selected based on genders, zip and given school numbers as well as the student ID. They were then assessed based on the asthma disease, bronchitis, wheezing, whether there is an intake of medication for the disease and the number of miss days with regard to the medication and the school year.

Defining pre-intervention and the database records

Pre-intervention involves the tests, or the procedure carried out immediately before the non-surgical interventions. Database records involve the practical method of storing and retrieving data from the database. Each record is composed of several types of data and this means that every single row is composed of several types of information, for example, a client record can compose of an ID number, name, and date of birth. In this particular survey, there are a total of 801 database records which represents student features.

Define a database field.

A field is the basic unit of data which has been entered in a record and defining a new file involves giving it a name. Field form part of a record and it consists of a single piece of data for the subject of the record (Eric, Paulina, Justin, & Brent, 2018). A field always appears as a column and in this particular survey case, there are a total of 12 fields i.e. the school number; student identification; the gender; the zip; date of birth; the presence or absence of the diseases such as Asthma; RAD; and Bronchitis. Other information represented includes wheezing, medication, missing days, and the w/month.

Define a database field data definition (DD)

Database field data definition (DD) refers to the key which describes the meaning of what has been described within the table consisting of the database information (University System of Georgia, n.d). For example, in this case, there are terms in the fields of this database to give a description of what is represented by each record, for example, SchoolNum has been used to represent the school identification or the school district number whereas gender has been used to stand for female or male. In DD, the full meaning of the shortened words such as DOB to stand for dote of birth or zip to stand for five-digit zip codes is used.

The purpose and potential use of this asthma survey data

Based on the information presented in this survey data, the ministry of health or even a specific hospital can rely on this information to know the number of cases related to the asthma infection and the most affected groups in terms of gender. It also reveals whether the affected individuals have been on medication or whether some of them have not yet been given drugs or diagnosed for such illness. There are also other implications caused by asthma infection such as wheezing, and bronchitis and this survey data helps to reveal such cases so that appropriate action might be taken to help in reducing the incidences.

Summary

The key presented in the survey data is composed of the field names and the field name data definitions. In this case, it helps in person to be aware of what the abbreviations such as DOB, student, and school Number means. The information on the key also reveals about the number of students who are suffering from the disease such as asthma, RAD, and wheezing and the number of students who have been on medication. The key provided in this case reveals the summary of what is represented in the table i.e. rows and columns.
