Opinion Editorial Guidelines
Op-Ed
- Write on the environmental topic of your choice, something you are passionate about!
- Be concise, generally 500 -700 words depending on the newspaper.
- Check online for guidelines for Op-Ed submissions at the newspaper.
- Be clear, avoid jargon & use acronyms sparingly, if at all.
- Explain things that are not commonly known.
- Be respectful of your readers. NEVER underestimate your readers’ intelligence, but recognize that the average reader is not an expert in your topic.
- Suggest solutions and ways forward!

Op-ed pieces (literally, opposite the editorial page) represent the views of individual columnists and contributing writers. Unlike the editorial page, these columns does not reflect the institutional views of the Globe.
