Opinion Editorial Guidelines
Op-Ed
- Write on the environmental topic of your choice, something you are passionate about!
- Be concise, generally 500 -700 words depending on the newspaper.
- Check online for guidelines for Op-Ed submissions at the newspaper.
- Be clear, avoid jargon & use acronyms sparingly, if at all.
- Explain things that are not commonly known.
- Be respectful of your readers. NEVER underestimate your readers’ intelligence, but recognize that the average reader is not an expert in your topic.
- Suggest solutions and ways forward!

Op-ed pieces (literally, opposite the editorial page) represent the views of individual columnists and contributing writers. Unlike the editorial page, these columns does not reflect the institutional views of the Globe. They are an opportunity for the Globe to reflect the diverse views of people in the community –and viewpoints may be presented that run counter to the Globe Editorial Board’s position.
