A fish dissection is an excellent way to observe anatomy, physiology, organ systems and evolution all at once.
It opens one’s eyes to the structural similarity between them and the human form. Respectful scientific
exploration of animals who were treated in humane ways, allows one to learn and be greater stewards of the
environment. This is especially true toward species one has just learned about.
Task
Watch the video link below which shows a perch dissection and write up a laboratory report. You should
present two drawings. The first should show a labelled diagram of the external structures of the perch. The
second should show the different internal structures observed. Make note of the similarities and differences
between the internal organisation of the fish compared to the human form.
