Some people are always working on their vulnerabilities and weaknesses. They see themselves as a series of faults to be corrected. In turn, they see others the same way.

- Think about your strengths and weaknesses in understanding statistics. Your vocabulary. Your ability to understand symbols. Your math skills. Your ability to understand things conceptually. List which areas you are strong in. Which areas are you weak in? Discuss how you can play to your strengths and how you can work on addressing your weaknesses.
- Now, let’s consider the following topic. It has been argued that there is a difference in pay between men and women in our society. List one particular area where you think a pay gap might exist. Also, list one particular area where you think a pay gap might not exist.
- If there are pay differences between men and women, discrimination has been given as one possible reason or interpretation of this difference. Using what you have learned about variability within a group, answer the following questions to see if there might be alternate interpretations: 1) Is there a particular group of women within the larger group of women that might be lowering the overall pay average for women? 2) Is there a particular group of men with in the larger group of men that might be raising the overall average for men?
