Scenario – “In a hospital that has just experienced staff radiographer layoffs, a senior radiography student is assigned to the surgical rotation with a staff technologist. The staff technologist is sent home early because of a low procedure count, and shortly thereafter a Disaster Code is called. Several accident patients are arriving, and some of them are going to surgery. The student is sent to surgery while the staff radiographers are busy with trauma patients in the department.
During the surgical procedure the C-Arm (X-ray machine) malfunctions and the student cannot correct the problem. By the time the staff radiographer arrives to fix the machine, the patient has died. The surgeon is furious with the student and shares this anger with the other surgeons.”
