The rate of change in China over the last 100 years or so has been amazing. It was a turbulent period for China with a democratic revolution at the beginning of the 20th century followed by the rise of Communism, World War II, with its hideous history in China, the triumph of Communism, various Communist attempts to revolutionize Chinese society and, finally, a switch from Communism to Chinese capitalism.
